EN8 Material Chemical Composition

What is EN8 Carbon Steel?

Common medium carbon and medium tensile steel, EN8 carbon steel is strengthened through hardening medium carbon steel, giving it an advantage over mild steel. Additionally, EN8 carbon steel may be machined easily in any state.

The standard application for EN8 steels is in their untreated, as-supplied state. However, EN8 steels can undergo additional surface hardening by induction procedures, resulting in components with improved resistance to wear. Good homogeneous metallurgical structures provide consistent machining qualities for Steel EN8 materials in their heat-treated forms

It should be noted that a fall-off in mechanical qualities would be noticeable approaching the core of the bar, but good heat treatment results on sections bigger than 65mm may still be possible. Since higher sizes of EN8 steel products are typically provided untreated, it is advised that heat treatment be done only after the initial stock removal. By doing this, the mechanical characteristics towards the core should be improved.

EN8 Material Chemical Composition:

EN8 is a popular through-hardening medium carbon steel that can be machined in any condition.EN8 is an appropriate for the production of general-purpose axles and shafts, gears, bolts and studs.  It can be surface-hardened to 50-55 HRC by induction methods, resulting in components with improved wear resistance.  EN8 has good homogeneous metallurgical structures in its heat treated forms, resulting in consistent machining qualities.

Here is a table summarizing the typical chemical composition of EN8 steel:
