PLASTIC MOLD STEEL-1.2311 Grade.

PLASTIC MOLD STEEL-1.2311 Grade.

P20 steelP20 Mold Steel is a versatile, low-alloy tool steel that is characterised by suitable sturdiness at slight energy ranges. P20 is usually sold within the pre-hardened situation at a hardness of about three 100 HBW. The P20 Grade steel is commonly used for plastic injection mold cavities and tooling and for die casting dies for zinc. The P20 steel is usually used for plastic injection mold cavities and tooling and for die casting dies for zinc

P20 grade steel is a version of mildew welding consumables, the earliest is P20, accompanied by way of P2HH, P20Ni have come out one after some other. Grade 1.2311,P20 steel is suitable for the manufacturing of plastic molds and die-casting low melting factor metallic mildew substances. This steel has precise machinability and reflect sharpening edges.

Chemical Composition of P20 mould steel:

Carbon 0.28-0.4
Manganese 0.6-1.0
Iron Balance
Chromium 1.4-2.0
Phosphorus 0.03 max
Molybdenum 0.3-0.55
Silicon 0.2-0.8
Sulphur 0.03 max

P20 Equivalent Steel Grades:

Standard ASTM A681 DIN EN ISO 4957 GB/T
Grades P20 1.2311 3Cr2Mo

What are the P20 mould steel properties?

P20 steel is typically pre-hardened upto 29 to 33 HRC.

It has a proper mirror polish-capability and its less texture makes finishing more difficult to cut .

It continues uniform hardness at some stage in even across large blocks.

Its first-rate weld-capability with grate durability and nitriding properties makes it a number one preference for plastic mold makers.

Mechanical properties of P20 steel:

Plastic mould steel. It’s miles usually provided in quenched and tempered situations.

Good machinability. Excellent polish capability, compared to 1.2312 (AISI P20+S) similar to AISI P20.

As generally added inside the hardened and tempered country, hardness is typically 32HRC.

No hardening risks, no warmness remedy, no distortion to gear.

Physical properties of P20 steel:

Density          0.284 lb/in3 (7861 kg/m3)
Specific Gravity              7.86
Modulus of Elasticity         30 x 106 psi (207 GPa)
Thermal conductivity         24 Btu/ft/hr/°F  41.5 W/m/°K
Machinability         60-65% of a 1% carbon steel

Heat Treatment of P20 Steel material:

Hardening: Critical Temperature to 763ºC

Quenching: Pressurized the gas and interrupted oil to 66-51ºC.

Preheating of P20 metal: Heat at a rate not exceeding 222ºC per hour to 621-677ºC and made to equalize.

Tempering: P20 tool steels are tempered at 482-593°C for a hardness of 37 to 28HRC

For oil, quench until it becomes black, at about 482°C, then cool it down in still air to 66-51°C.

P20 1.2738 grade also called high hardness is an extensive form of P20 steel.

Its common features:

P20 Steel 1.2738 Material is a Versatile, Low-Alloy Steel. It has Good Toughness at Common Strength Levels. Resistance to Abrasion. Ability to Hold a Cutting Edge. Uniform Hardness of Large Moulds. Easy Processing. Easy Polishing. Distinctive Hardening Characteristics. This P20 Steel 1.2738 is a pre-hardened Grade Steel Plate. Specially designed for Plastic Mold Industry. Many Rich Carbon Steel Tool also are more Resistant to Corrosion. Resistance to Deformation at Elevated Temperatures (Red-hardness).

Applications of P20 Steel:

Plastic moulds, die holder, backers, rames for plastic pressure dies, hydro forming mold tools. Bolsters, die holders. Also suitable for other applications inclusive of rails, shafts and wear strips. P20 steel are used for low temperature programs that include injection molds and die casting dies.
